Is Salmon Healthy?
Salmon is a great source of protein that can be enjoyed frequently due to its health benefits. Salmon helps fight inflammation, which in turn helps prevent heart attacks and arthritis. It’s also a good source of vitamin D and B12, both important vitamins for maintaining a healthy immune system.
What to Serve with This Easy Salmon Recipe
This recipe include asparagus as part of the recipe. This is a one pan dinner that is ready in less than 25 minutes. You can easily serve this recipe with a side of rice, pasta or zoodles.
Any type of vegetables can be added as well. A simple side salad can easily be paired with this healthy dinner. You can chop the veggies of the salad and toss it together while the salmon cooks.
More options are to serve this with brown rice, Butternut Squash noodles, or one of my favorites, these Instant Pot Garlic Mashed Potatoes to round out the meal. This makes it perfect for quick weeknight meals.
How to Store This Crispy Honey Orange Salmon
This orange glazed salmon can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days. You can easily freeze this meal for up to three months.
To freeze simply place the leftover fish in an airtight container or zip top baggie and put it in the freezer. When you are ready to eat, thaw the fish in the fridge overnight and then enjoy.
How to Pick the Best Salmon
Smell your salmon to see if it is still good. A fishy smell indicates that the fish is no longer fresh and should be discarded. The salmon should have a mild, sweet aroma with no strong pungent odor.
The skin of the salmon should be bright in color and moist in appearance with firm flesh. If the skin appears slimy or dry, it should be discarded.
The fish should feel firm and resilient to the touch. Gently press one finger against the flesh of the fish; the indentation should spring back almost immediately after releasing your finger.
If you leave an indentation that lasts more than a couple of minutes, then your fish is past its prime and should be discarded.
Check that the gills of the salmon are red, pink and moist. They should not appear withered or brown in color. Brown gills mean that your fish is no longer fresh and should be discarded immediately.
For many people, the easiest way to buy salmon is from the frozen food section of the grocery store. If you purchase it frozen, make sure that the fish is solid in appearance with no breakage in the fillet.
